Join us for a live Zoom panel discussion and Q&A with physicians from across the country. While these medical professionals represent a large range of disciplines and institutions, all of them have thought deeply about the way that the historic Christian faith shapes their work.
Dr. Jon Tilburt, Mayo Clinic, Arizona
The research and writing of Jon C. Tilburt, M.D., focuses on improving care and human connection in health systems, including how best to incorporate the beliefs and values of patients and clinicians into clinical care.
Dr. Kayla Nixon, Rush Medical Center, Chicago
Kayla Nixon, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon at Rush University System for Health in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Nixon also holds an M.A. in Art History from Pratt Institute
Dr. Benjamin Cox, UAB Medicine
Dr. Benjamin Cox is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Epilepsy Division. He completed medical school at the University of Cincinnati followed by neurology residency, clinical neurophysiology EEG fellowship, and epilepsy fellowship at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He recently received the Young Investigator Award from the American Epilepsy Society. He also has an interest in improving access to epilepsy care in resource-poor countries. Outside of medicine, he is a husband and father of two young boys, a musician, a writer, an outdoorsman, and most importantly, a follower of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Ian Parney, Mayo Clinic, Minnesota
Dr. Parney is professor and vice chair for research for the Department of Neurologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Mayo Clinic enterprise chair for neurosurgery research.
Dr. Parney lives in Rochester Minnesota with his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Yan and their sons James and Max. Dr. Parney is an accomplished runner and musician. While his wife Elizabeth is a superb chef who makes most Parney Household meals on weeknights, Dr. Parney cooks most of the meals on weekends and is responsible for turkey during the holidays. Most importantly, through God’s grace, Dr. Parney has happily rested in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the past 32 years.
Dr. Matt Schuelke, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
Matt Schuelke, MD, PhD graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in bioengineering and from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine with his medical and graduate degrees. He is currently a pediatrics resident at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with a goal of becoming a pediatric oncologist specializing in cancer immunotherapy. Joining him on his journey of medical training are his wife of 9 years and his two young boys, with whom he shares a love of beauty found in art, music, nature, literature, and occasionally, Illinois sports teams.
Dr. Tom Boone, White Mountain Apache Tribe, AZ
Tom Boone is a follower of Jesus, married to Megan, and father to Leo. Tom is a full-spectrum Family Physician in areas of ER, Endoscopy, inpatient care, and OB at White Mountain Apache Tribe. He did residency in Muncie, IN and medical school at the University of Cincinnati. His interests are indigenous healthcare and justice as well as international medical missions.
Dr. Terrence McGrath, Ascension-St. Vincents
Terrence McGrath, M.D., is a Family Medicine physician, husband, and father of 4. He graduated from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed a Family Residency at Texas A&M University. The last 4 years he has practiced full spectrum Family Medicine in Warsaw Indiana including obstetrics. He and his family recently moved to Indianapolis, IN where he is joining a practice with Ascension-St. Vincents. Dr McGrath frequently presents on Whole Person Care with the Medical Strategic Network.

Bart Pederson, PhD., Associate Professor of Medicine at Ball State / IU School of Medicine
Bartholomew Pederson received his PhD at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences where he investigated the regulation of glucose-6-phosphatase in liver. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine-Indianapolis where he examined glycogen synthase regulation in yeast and the role of muscle glycogen synthase in transgenic and knockout mouse models. Dr. Pederson’s most recent research uses genetically modified mouse models to study the role of glycogen in health and disease.
