How do I get involved?
From our inception, Alcuin Study Center has offered programming and opportunities for faculty and staff. We love to see the faculty and staff interacting with students at our events. With the exception of the Student Advisory Board, Faculty and Staff are invited to every event listed on the Student involvement page.
In addition, ASC provides some unique opportunities for faculty & staff:
Theological Integration Coaching
Most Christian faculty in academia admit that while they have spent a decade or more pursuing their academic discipline, they may have only and 8th grade theological understanding.
We are committed to helping faculty consider their research and teaching through the lens of Christian theology.
Dr. Ben Hotmire, Dean of Faculty Development, Education, and Social & Behavioral Sciences at Taylor University is working with ASC to help coach BSU faculty in this area. If you are interested in meeting with Ben, please let us know.
Faculty Theological Collaborative
Every year our sister study center at Duke University—The Center for Christianity & Scholarship—hosts a dynamic event for Faculty from all over the country.
Ball State faculty have attended this event for the past two years and have found it not only encouraging and inspiring, but also quite practical.
Office Hours
Are you feeling cramped in your office when students come to visit? Does your department make terrible coffee? Would you like more sun and less fluorescent lighting?
Faculty can arrange to use ASC for office hours / meeting students.

Collaboration
We are always looking for partners on campus. We love collaborating! Alcuin Study Center works for the welfare of the University, and we love to provide resources that serve the ends of human flourishing.
We are connected to universities and other institutions across the country. We have a large network of academics, artists, musicians, writers, and others just a phone call away.
If your vision intersects with our mission, we’d love to work with you!
Let us know if you have an idea:
A Third Place
A faculty member recently told me why he loves ASC so much: “There are certain topics and questions that don’t feel appropriate to discuss with colleagues on campus, and many feel that they can’t be honest about certain questions at church. Alcuin Study Center provides a third place, where charitable dialogue is the norm and where people can disagree in love without fear of being misunderstood or judged.”
So come and visit with colleagues or students. There’s always meaningful conversation happening here.
