An Exploration of Work & Vocation

Thursdays 4:00-5:30pm

March 13-April 24

Because we do (or will) spend a substantial amount of our lives laboring in either paid or unpaid callings, it is vital for Christians to connect their work to their faith and to their daily pursuit of faithfully following Jesus.

This class will assess and evaluate contemporary attitudes and views toward work, including contributing factors behind such attitudes and views; will survey relevant biblical passages on work in order to arrive at a biblical view of work and vocation; will consider specific implications of adopting a distinctively biblical approach to work; will identify ways to discern divinely-bestowed skills, gifts, traits, and desires that inform personal choices about work; and will stress certain dangers of work imbalance while noting the importance of rest and leisure.

Brian Allred is Associate Pastor at New Life Presbyterian Church in Yorktown and a regular teacher and writer for Alcuin Study Center.
